The battle with diaper rash

Well, we are currently in a battle to get Emerson over her first case of diaper rash. That stuff is ridiculous. It just won't go away. It starts with a couple spots and just gets a tad bit worse everyday. Uugghhh.

Anyone have any tips? Suggestions or products they love for this? I could really use some help...

Leave me a comment or shoot me an email if you have any brilliant ideas.

I have had good luck with the Arbonne Herbal Diaper Cream. A friend was just telling me the other day how well it has worked for her son, too. laurenbenesh.myarbonne.com

Another friend who is a doctor recommends Aquaphor. It contains synthetic ingredients, though (like mineral oil), which I try to steer clear of.

Jakson, thankfully, hasn't had many diaper rashes, but I have a friend who swears by athlete's foot cream. She says that the same fungus that is in athlete's foot causes diaper rash. It's a thought....

CC and diaper rash went hand in hand and Boudreaux worked wonders

does she still have it? If none of the diaper rash creams are working it might be a yeast infection. My daughter battles them as well. If diaper rash stuff doesn't work, I'd try gentian violer (looks and works like iodine - ask your pharmacist). This worked better than the $60 cream my doctor prescribed and it's all natural! Just dab a cotton swab under water, and then in the genetian violet and rub on the inside of her cheeks (same thing you do for thrush - FYI). She'll digest it and should clear up. You can out it directly on her bum and all spots, but I never have so I am not sure how well it works there. If you are still unsure if it's yeast - check for bumps that look almost like little pimples. That a sure sign. HTH!

Diaper rash is caused by uirc acid (pee)irritating the skin in cunjunction with something else, usually poop (the bacteria found in poop actually) or lots of saliva going through baby's digestive system (teething creates this condition quite often).

There are three things that I know of that help.

1) Change her diapers more often.

2) Leave her butt bare for a little bit each day so that it can get some air and dry out a bit. If you can arrage it so that she can be in the sun at the same time even better. Sunlight sometimes has a positive result.

3) Create a barrier on her skin that prevents contact with the moisture and poop in her diaper. The old standard is zinc oxide. I I Have had the best luck with Desitin Original Formula. it has the highest concentration of zinc oxide of any of the diaper creams on the market. Do not use the Desitin Creamy Formula because it comes off of baby's butt onto the diaper too easily. The Original Formula is much tackier. (I jokingly refer to it as Butt Caulk.) Apply it liberally, especially at night time, when there is the highest probablity of lengthier expposure to wet or poopy diaper.
