Name Change?

Well, I think it is time for me to officially change the name of this blog because we are a family of four! Ashton just couldn't wait 3 more days for his scheduled arrival! He is healthy and precious and looks nothing like Emerson!

So, for record keeping sake, here is the "story".

Saturday was spent shopping at the semi-annual Just Between Friends consignment sale. There is a group of us that goes everytime and it is so worth it. I got a blue bumbo, 6 boy outfits, 6 girl outfits (all were carters or gap), 2 pairs of shoes for Emerson, an embroidered backpack for Emy, some brand new Lansinoh products still in the box and a couple other things that I cannot remember....All of that was only $96 after tax! Told you, the sale is a can't miss.

Anyways, we were at the sale (aka on our feet) for4 hours. Later in the evening we went to our great friends house to grill out and watch the TCU season opener. Dinner was so good and there were even cupcakes for dessert! I was exhausted from the long day and tried to go to bed early but I was in a lot of pain. I did not think anything of it though because pain in the evening had been really typical in this pregnancy.

I woke up at 2:30 in the morning to go to the bathroom and it happened. My water broke. This is really no surprise to have your water break at 38.5 weeks pregnant but in my case, the real surprise was that I made it to 38.5 weeks. You see with this pregnancy came a fibroid problem. At my very first sonogram the doctor noticed a fibroid and wanted to cautiously watch it. I had very frequent sonograms to track its growth...and it certainly kept growing. At one point I was seeing the doctor weekly for sonos and we were all just hoping that I make it to 32 weeks because my cervix had already started funneling (the early stages of labor). Needless to say, despite the odds, I carried our baby and his "friend", the fibroid, to term.

Back to the story- My water broke early Sunday morning. I came out of the bathroom and told Steve and his reaction was to be expected..."What? Are you serious?" We quickly got up and started packing to go to the hospital. Since our families were not expected to be in town for a couple of days when my csection had originally been planned for, we did not know what to do with Emerson. We called friends and decided to just take her to the hospital with us and one of our friends would meet us there to play with her while Steve and I were in the operating room.

Steve went in to Emerson's room to wake her up. He excitedly told her that we had to get up and take mommy to the hospital because baby Ashton was coming. To say that she was excited would be the understatement of the year. Next thing I hear is Emy running around saying, "I'm a big sister, I'm a big sister"!

We got to the hospital at about 3:45am and spent the next few hours doing paperwork, being monitored, etc. At some point Steve took Emerson over to her best friend, Jaylee's house, to spend the morning. At about 7:15 they wheeled me into the OR and got me all set up with a spinal and an epidural. Listening to the doctors talk about what they see and are doing is weird. Listening to their reaction when they saw the fibroid was hillarious...."Whoa! It is huge".

Ashton arrived at 7:57 am weighing a whopping 9lbs 3 oz and measuring 21.25 inches long. He is such a big boy! Almost 2 full pounds larget than Emerson (7lb5oz) at birth. I still cannot believe that I was carrying a massive fibroid and a massive baby. Combine the weight and I literally could have been carrying twins- I looked like I was too.

What I can tell you about Ashton so far is that he is a snuggler who likes to eat. Basically, if he is not snuggling (preferable skin to skin), eating or sleeping then he is screaming. No joke! From the moment they pulled him out to about an hour later when I got to feed him and hold him for the first time in recovery, he screamed the entire time. Literally. And not a sweet newborn scream but a bloody murder scream. He was just hungry though because once he latched on he nursed for an hour! I am hoping that when my milk comes in and he is really able to eat that he will be more content, but who knows!

He is quite precious although he does not look anything like his sister. Steve and I are trying to figure out who he looks like...my vote is that he looks the most like what Steve's brother, Scott, looked like at birth. He is so chunky and roly-poly all over and already has a little double chin!

Here are a couple of pictures. I promise to post more soon.

Congratulations!! How fantastic and thank you for sharing your precious moment! He looks brill and nothing like premature, lol! I reckon had you carried him 3 more weeks growing the way he seems to have done, you'd have been in trouble! Nature has delivered him exactly on time. How beautiful.

Sab, he is so handsome! He has such a boyish look already. So did they tell you how much the fibroid weighed? I think it's funny how thoroughly God answered prayers for all to go well with your pregnancy. You got a full term, big healthy baby boy! Praise Him! Love you, friend.

Congratulations! I had a feeling you had Ashton. I am getting ready for work, and never get on the computer in the mornings, but had a feeling to check your blog. Wow! So exciting! I am so happy for you. Wish I could come see you! I will have to make a trip to Ft. Worth sometime in the next few months. My cousin plays basketball for TCU, so maybe we can meet up if I go to a game or something! So happy for you! Congrats again!

Oh my goodness! What a precious BIG boy! Congratulations!

One piece of advice: I had a C-section for my 2nd birth, too, and I only had help for a couple of weeks. Looking back, I should have scheduled help or asked for it for at least a month, because I truly needed it. Taking care of a newborn, a toddler, and yourself while you are recovering can be too much. Don't push yourself too hard, like I did.

Hope you are doing well and getting a decent amount of sleep! Everyone (including you) looks beautiful!
