Did you miss us?

Oh my word. Having an eye injury really puts you out...here is the quick story. On Wednesday the 11th, Emerson woke up from her nap and we were sitting in the dark, chatting while she got fully awake. She was pointing out my features and she pointed to my eye. I was not fast enough to blink and she scratched my eye with her tiny, razor-like nail. It was the most painful experience I have ever had.

Luckily my mother-in-law was in town and I called her to come over immediately. She drove me to an urgent care clinic where they confirmed the scratch, numbed my eye, gave me some antibiotics and sent me on my way. Thursday, my eye was still bad, but seemed a little better. Friday, Saturday and Sunday my eye still hurt so bad. I could still barely open it. I knew something was wrong. I went back to the clinic for a follow-up on Monday. The scratch was gone and they did not know what to do so they referred me to an Opthamologist. I saw him first thing Tuesday morning. He is an angel.

He said that I had a complication called a recurring surface abrasion. This is where the wound was re-opening everyday...kind of like if you were to pick a scab open everyday. Ahhh, this explained the extreme pain! So, he put me on three different meds (that I have to use for 6 weeks!!!) and said I should be feeling significantly better in a day or so. He was right, I am still using the meds, but feel much better. I can actually open my eye, drive, see in sunlight, wear mascara- life is good.

So, here is a quick run down on what is happening in Emerson's world right now.

-She loves to give hugs and kisses. If you ask her for a hug or a kiss she will come over to you with open arms and give you a real hug. It is absolutely precious.

-She got a new swing for a tree in the backyard. She is completley in love with it. Not kidding, I think she swang in it 15 times yesterday.

-She is soooooo close to walking. When my grandmom was here a couple weeks ago she taught her to walk around holding someones hand. Since then, that is all she wants to do- She has not let go yet, but this is a huge improvement.

-Grandmom also taught her how to climb up into chairs and on things- thanks grandmom!

-We went to the zoo last Thursday with Meghann and Hayden. The kiddos had a good time riding around in the wagon. Again, they gave each other adorable hugs- it is soooo sweet.

-Emerson LOVES jewelry. She has some mardi-gras beads and a bangle bracelet of mine that she loves to wear around. If you have jewelry on, even a watch, she wants you to take it off so that she can wear it.

We had our first Stride Rite experience. Her feet are finally big enough for real shoes. She got some precious sandals for summer and some tennis shoes in a bigger size for the fall. She thinks she is hot stuff in her new shoes.

Visually impaired

Just a quick note to check in. I scratched my cornea last Wednesday and the healing process is not going well. I am seeing an Opthamologist in the morning. I have lots of Emy stories to tell, but can't look at a computer screen long enough to type a real post. Hopefully I will be back soon....

I don't even know what you call this

It is not crawling, it is not walking....maybe crawking or wawling. Whatever, for the past 4-5 days, this has been Emerson's form of getting around. She cruises around the house on her knees in an upright position. She has realized that if she is upright, she can carry things in her arms.

The amazing thing is that our house is almost entirely tile. It is painful to watch because I can only imagine how much it hurts. Her little knees and shins are so pitiful and bruised. This has to be a step closer to walking....right?

Just for fun, here are some cute, messy lunch pics from this afternoon.

One of these days

Last month Emerson took one spontaneous step. We thought for sure she would walk soon.

Since that exciting step...nothing. nada. zip. zilch.

Yesterday, Emerson took 2 spontaneous steps.

It was very unexpected and exciting. I am not getting my hopes up. Maybe by Easter, or summer or at the very least her next birthday.

March goal

So, February's goal was easy. Organization. I started on it immediately and worked on it a little bit every couple of days. One thing I learned is that organizing- at least the way I want to do it- is expensive. I did repurpose several bins and baskets that were not being used to their fullest though. Other than that I did not really buy anything except a couple of $2 bins at Target and some cute pink baskets for the sewing room.

So, the goal changed a little bit once I realized that I could not completely afford what I wanted to do. It turned into more of a clean-out the spaces project. Still something that really needed to be done. I have decided, out of embaressment, that I will not post most of the "before" photos...just the sewing room, but here is what happened:

-Hall closet- This desperately needed to be cleaned out- in fact a trash bag of stuff was tossed. Isn't it amazing how much junk we hold on to? Anyways, I organized all the medicine by category into 4 different bins and moved them into the guest bath room. The bins are all labeled- stomach, cold & cough, general and baby. That alone was super helpful. Before that the medicine was just thrown in there and we could not find anything. I also moved all the linens into the guest bathroom (there is tons of storage in there). As I mentioned in an earlier post, all of the fine china was moved into this closet due to a curious toddler.

-Guest bathroom- This was pretty empty before. There is so much storage space in there that I did not know what to do with it. There are still several empty drawers but I put most of the space to good use.

-Sewing room- This room was a disaster. It is still a work-in-progress but is much better than it was. Basically, buying storage bins and organization tools is all I need to do, but they are so expensive that I do it a couple at a time. I have a great storage closet in there with lots of shelving, but it is so full of other junk that no sewing stuff fits in there. Once again, I need to clean it out so that I can really put it to better use.

Before. Yikes

Stuff everywhere
Fabric and patterns overflowing
Just a giant disaster area
After. A little more order More fabric bins added to my growing collection
A new sewing machine! Joy!
A new serger so that I can sell professionally done clothes!

So, for my March goal I have decided that I need to make a couple of outfits for Emerson. This might sound like a simple goal for most, but I have absolutely no time. With the crazy amount of orders that I have it is going to be really tough to find the time to get some done for her. I have all these precious spring patterns and fabric set aside for her and I really need to make it a priority.
I will leave you with some random pics of Emerson at the park. It was a little chilly, but she was bundled and still enjoyed the swings.

Swinging
How cute is this jacket and hat? My mother-in-law made it for her for Christmas. It is all minky and so soft- makes me wish I had a minky coat.

Almost a smile

No topic

Hi everyone. I really don't have a topic today except to post the precious pics. These are from last week. Emy has discovered the china cabinet. I promptly moved all the china into a closet and filled it with books and random stuff that she can mess with. She loves to go over to it and pull everything out and then put everything back in.

Chopsticks!

Ooooo, something good!
We got Emerson her first pair of sunglasses (Target $1 aisle) in preparation for summer. She thinks she is pretty hot stuff in them.
On another random note, Noodles & Milk surpassed 300 sales last week! Holy cow, I can't believe it. If you have not checked it out lately, you should drop in because there are lots of new goodies and more to come.
